The 49th running of Woodville is officially being renamed Wetville after the heavens opened up and turned the pristine race track into an absolute quagmire.

While the rain was making the riders unrecognisable, the racing it provided was some of the best in awhile.

In the MX2, mud was the great equaliser as relative unknown Evans Wadsworth took the win in an epic battle with Darryl King. Wadsworth hailing form the South Island, had a good start along with Jesse Wiki, King and Cameron Dillon. Dillon would go down in the third corner and eventually DNF. Wiki would lead a large part of the moto before going down and handing the lead to Wadsworth. King would take the lead with 2 laps to go but with half a lap left Wadsowrth would retake the lead and never look back, which resulted in the biggest upset win in years. King taking second and Wiki third.

Moto 2 and King got the holeshot followed closely by Wiki and Dillon. However this time Wiki was not going to let anyone get the upper hand on him as he tucked in behind King and stalked him. Wiki and King checked out on Dillon who rode his own race to third and Wiki got past King on the last lap as King made an uncharacteristic mistake in the mud.

The overall going to Wiki, his first major win in quite sometime, followed by the wiley old veteran King and first moto winner Wadsworth, who got third via 1-11 moto scores.

The MX1 class had a lot to live up to and didn’t disappoint as the results showed Townley going to a 1-1 victory but it was stand out ride by Michael Phillips in the mud that was talk of the pits.

Ben would win the first moto but only just over Philips as he would finish less than 3 seconds a lap time behind Townley having run quicker laptimes during the mot than him. Justin McDonald who had led the opening part of the moto but had been passed both by Phillips and Townley in the third lap would eventually take third 10 seconds behind Philips but 40 seconds ahead of Cooper.

In the second moto, Phillips true mud riding ability came to light as he was rounded the first lap in 6th place and put his head down and started picking off riders. In the 5 lap race he past Mason Philips, Cody Cooper and Shaun Fogarty and was on the tail of McDonald at the fall of the chequered flag. Townley would take the win, followed by Mc Donald and then Phillips. Phillips was running 2 seconds a lap faster than Townley which is no short feat.

The overall going Townley, McDonald and then Phillips with McDonald and Phillips being tied on points but McDonald getting awarded second place by virtue of a better second moto.

The 125cc class saw another huge upset as James Ainsworth took the win over National Champion Damien King. Ainsworth went 1-2 in the mud to beat Kings 6-1 scores with Roydon White going 3-3 for third. King who went down in the first corner of the first moto could only manage a 6th but interesting note was Ainsworth was 6 seconds a lap faster in the mud, proving how much a good start helps.

The feature final was won by Justin McDonald as Ben Townley did all he could to catch and pass McDoanld. However his attempts where unsuccessful as McDonald rode a smart race and never looked out of control during the 20 minute final. 3rd was Shaun Fogarty who rode his own race without any real pressure from anyone.

Stay tuned: Photo's and Helmet cam coverage will be up shortly!
