With such a big night of events it’s almost impossible to decide where to start a race report like this.

The Juniors is always a good place to start and once again it didn’t disappoint. The Junior Lites (85cc & 150F) was Micah McGoldricks to lose and he rode strong all day to take 2 out of 3 wins. Haki Waller did take one win but it has become plainly obvious that he has outgrown the 85 and needs to move up to a 125. Scott Sowry rounded out the podium with consistent 3-3-3 finishes to take 3rd in the Championship.

In Junior 250, there were several fresh faces on the starting line which added to the excitement of the racing as Isaiah McGoldrick, who was leading the Championship only had to finish 5th in each of his 3 races to win the championship since Tom Managh had crashed out at the previous round. Isaiah had 3-1-1 moto scores for the day after a crash in the first moto left him playing catch up the rest of the moto. The winner of that race was local lad Joshua Jack whose win would be the only highlight of the entire day for him. Second was 13 year old Brandon Tipene who was a standout this year with 4-2-2 scores. However the star of the day, and while the results don’t reflect it, was West Auckland’s Broc Martens. Broc had only decided earlier in the week to ride and had done little to no training for the event and rode to 2-3-3 scores and came close to winning a moto. If he was to train it would be very interesting to see how he would do.

If there had been a script for the Senior Lites, it wouldn’t have been as good as what really unfolded over the course of the day. A new Mason Philips showed up aboard his Kawasaki and any troubles he had had from the previous week he hadn’t forgotten about as he went onto crush the competition with 1-1-1 moto scores and more importantly win the Championship. The last time Mason won a Senior National Title was 2002. A very long time between drinks. Scott Columb who had come in with a healthy points lead had a day he rather forget as he ended up losing 21 points to Mason with 2-3-10 scores. A crash in the first corner of the last moto and then another with Nick Saunders while passing him ultimately cost him the Championship. Scott still got 3rd for the day just a head of Jesse Wiki but it was another Suzuki rider, Brad Groombridge taking 2nd over al for the day with 4-2-2 scores. He will be a definite threat for the title next year.

The Senior Open Class was action packed as usual with Ben Townley clearly in control of the championship. The fight for 2nd however was a 3 way battle between Cody Cooper, Justin McDonald and Mason Philips as only 3 points separated them.

Ben won all 3 races going 1-1-1, winning the Championship with 222pts out if a possible 240. The fight for second place went to Cody Cooper who was lucky after a less than stellar 2nd moto. Cody had 2-4-2 scores and while he tied with Mason who had 3-2-3 scores he was awarded it on count back. This gave Mason 3rd and Justin 4th after eh finished the day off with 4-3-4 scores.

The racing was awesome in all 4 classes as for every deserved Champion there was someone else ready to capitalise on their mistakes as quick as look. A very well run event with some of the best racing this country has ever seen.
