tye_head.jpgMost of you would know the name Tye Simmonds, and just about everyone who has raced Tye here has seen his back number printed on his armour.

Well he's coming back across the ditch to ride at the 2008 Summercross held in Whakatane, and will then move onto Motueka to do Round one of our SX Series. While here, he will be staying over to train with KTM's Ethan Martens until late January where he will also compete at the 2008 Woodville GP in Palmerston North.

Simmonds is no stranger to these shores; having been over here on previous occasions and has always been a crowd pleaser and always finds time to spend with the younger kids of our sport.

His latest event was the Auckland Supercross where he practically dominated the field in the MX1 class aboard a KTM250cc 2 stroke and was without a doubt one of the highlights of that weekend. His tangle with Suzuki's Scott Columb where both bikes were locked together played an important part of the evening as he was unable to catch Luke Burkhart for the win.

After the final round of the Australian 2008 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals, Tye completed his season by winning the under 19's and his most recent result was runner up in the 2008 Australian Supercross Series where he completed his first senior season as a senior pro lites rider.

"I'm super pumped to be making the trip, I love this place and love the tracks even more, you guys do have fast riders here so my job wont be easy, but I know it will be heaps of fun, so I am really looking forward to racing here" commented Simmonds.

He will be something to see at these events and will definitely be up front fighting our boys for the podium, so if you were thinking of taking a look at any of these events, he is one rider you'll enjoy watching.

the auckland supercross i watched Tye rode very well but Hurley beat him all night, he was easily the best of the rest, how do you "practically dominate" the race without winning anything???
