The word of the day is drama, and thats because there was plenty of it.In the 125cc class, Damien King rode to the win in the first moto after passing Ethan Martens late in the moto. This was enough to give Damien the win without having to do the second moto. Ethan had his best ride of the year with a second in the first moto and a fifth in the second. This was enough to give him second overall for the day and third for the year. While Cameron Dillon was having an off day, only managing 5-4 scores, it was enough to secure the championship for the year in the Under 21 class and second overall for the year in the 125cc championship behind Damien. Matt Prumm must be using all his spare time for training now instead of studying as the full time student rode to an impressive fourth overall for the weekend. In the MX2 class, the drama was so heavy I dont know where to begin. Title favourite Michael Philips looked set to win the championship after winning the first most comfortably and leaving himself with a 19 point buffer over Darryl Hurley. However in the first lap of the second moto while leading Mikey crashed and was unable to restart the bike for sometime. He rode down the track the wrong way and was black flagged for doing so. Goodbye Race, Goodbye Point lead, Goodbye Championship. This leaves Justin McDonald to win the moto but his bike expires as well. Hurley inherits the lead and takes charge, while a young man by the name of Hayden Clark does all he can to win pressuring Hurlz right to the finish line. This leaves Hurlz as the class winner for the day and the year, Mason Philips as second for the day, and the anomaly that is Brad Groombridge as third. A heart braking second for the year is Mikey P and a very low key Dobbyn as third, proving that consistency will help everytime. Justin is fourth for the year even though he had two DNFs for the year. The MX1 class was full of excitement to. However it proved how crucial the dropped round form the previous round at Timaru was. Damien King after going out and winning the 125cc title backed it up with another in the open class. He however wasnt the fastest out there as that was clearly Scott Columb as he won 5 out of 7 motos. The non pointer he scored in the second race in the first round cost him dearly as he lost the title by a meagre 2 points, proving the old adage, to finish first, first you must finish. Peter Broxholme had a day he would rather forget as Damien King passed him in the second moto giving him enough points to tie even with Broxy for the championship. The championship was however awarded to Damien on countback. Final Results: MX1 (open class): 1. Damien King (Cambridge, Yamaha) 147 points; 2. Peter Broxholme (Tauranga, Honda) 147; 3.
